I took multiple political ideology tests last week. Some of them, I was told to in class. When I got my results back, I was interested to see if other quizzes would match up with the ones I took. My results totally contradicted my typical relations to the Democratic Party. Conservative, Core Conservative, Independent, etc. But even more surprising to me was the party that most frequently matched with my ideology-the Libertarian Party.
I understand that this party is the most popular third party currently. As I talked about in my blog post a few days ago, their role in elections, and more broadly, politics in general is significant. I want to take a chance think deeply about this party's theories and views. I want to know which views of mine align with theirs.
From what I know, Libertarians are extremely opposed to government intervention in most cases-including, in the market and with property. They also believe strongly that people's rights must be respected, as long as no one is breaking the law. Their 2018 platform specifically addresses the importance of individual rights. That the government should be minimally involved in this freedom. To outline this idea into three groups, they state; The right to life, the right to liberty of speech and action, and the right to property.
I know that Gary Johnson was the Libertarian candidate in the 2016 election. What other people are currently leading this party? I wonder if this party in particular will continue to gain more support, and what the effect on our society that would have. Do more people than we even know relate to this party?
